Once again the Twin Cities Amazons went up to Canada and took the SNAFU championship!!!! We took a team made up of 7 Veteran Amazons and 11 Soon To Be Amazons, and still walk away undefeated!
The Weekend started off Saturday morning in true SNAFU fashion with the first game being 30 minutes late. The Amazons took the field with a Strong Young Backline and a Smaller then usual Zon Pak with the goal of playing with the Backs!! And play with the Back we did, out scoring the Wombats 35 – 0. Tries were scored by many including one Amazon new comer who has played in only 1 game – Tresa from Mankato is her name and after 2 tries in 10 minutes – she will always remember to place the ball after she crosses the try-line! Another Try worth reminiscing about was scored by Rachel Dingle – Amazon Speedy Prop. Dingle had a break away over a poor unexpecting wing. After Dingle left cleat marks down the #14’s back she ran the ball into the try zone, but before she place the ball, she had the need to “center” the ball. When I say center – I mean she wanted to run over one more innocent back. #15 for the Wombats shared the same fate as her friend #14 – Dingles cleat marks down her back. Thank you Dingle for centering the ball!
After an Hour break the Amazons had to take the Field against the MN Menagerie.
The game was more physical then the first, but the Zons still pulled out the win with a score 35 – 12.
We had another hour break before our third and final match against the Canadian Rowdies – hands down our biggest competition. It was later in the day and the Baby Zons were getting a bit tired, but we were able to scrap together for the win with a close score of 21 – 12. The Canadians hit us hard, but we pulled together and were able to find the gaps. Big thanks goes out to Maria for her beautiful chase down tackle that saved a try, and to Mamma for hitting the gaps off Reebok at a full sprint!
After a long day of rugby, it was time to unwind back at the hotel. Every room had its drink of choice – the Veteran Zons were sophisticated with their “Box O’Wine.” The Duluth Room shared various mixed shots as Maria’s room downed their bottles of “Boones.” The Mankato girls were good little sex kittens and waited for the boys to purchase their drinks! After a few hours at the Bar, Hightowers 23 minutes of heaven that won Zac $20 and Millers inability to keep her dress on – it was time to call it a night. After all – we had a Championship to play for the next day!
Our first game was against a Gin soaked Menagerie ending in a Big Amazon win of 48 – 0. Time to Play for the Championship and $750!!!
Our toughest competition was to meet us in the Final – the Canadian Rowdies. It was another hard hitting game, but the Amazon Veterans stepped it up and started cleaning things up. The Baby Zons followed their lead and we took the win 17 – 12! One memorable Try worth mentioning was scored by Baby Zon Heidi from Mankato! She had a forward break away that ended in a beautiful spin move as she dived in for her FIRST TRY EVER!!!!
After we collected our $750 and drank out of our championship pitcher, it was time to break out the Leopard Print and party like an Amazon. The Veteran Zons stayed safe with blue jeans and Leopard print tops – the Babies were a different story. Duluth brought Leopard fabric and made their own clothes in their hotel room – very interesting! Miller wore another dress with hopes of keeping this one on (she didn’t keep this one on either). Vickie thought she was going out in a T-shirt and jeans, but Reebok got a hold of a pair of scissors – you can imagine what happened next. Ari found a Leopard print top with a bunch of owls on it – very interesting, but it made for good conversation between make-out sessions. And I saved the best for last – Mankato.
The Mankato girls won the best dressed award for the evening. Duke, Sunny, Heidi and Tresa dressed to impress – they stole the show with a leopard print boostiea, a halter top, spandex and accessories. Way to steal the show Mankato!
Not many stayed in their own rooms or beds that night, but we all came together safely Sunday mid-morning!
Thank You to everybody for joining the Amazons for SNAFU 2007!! It was a great weekend of rugby and fun. Until next year!
