Fall 2007: Amazons 74 - Wisconsin Women 0

The match started a bit late due to a referee snafu.  But once underway Wisconsin’s kickoff led to a quick score by the Amazons, followed by the start of an episode of Magic Foot—the made for TV series staring, Janet Christensen in the lead role.  The Amazons controlled the pace of the match. There was a lot of continuity and offloading in loose play. Scrumming was dominated by the Amazons—the pack engaged with a force and stole the majority of Madison’s puts. Lineouts were high flying and hard driving.  Scoring was a shared endeavor, with contributors too many to remember, but Janet put on a legendary conversion kicking display going 5 for 6 in the first half.  Then the show took an evil twist when Roger jinxed it at the half time by complimenting her on her constancy.

The second half got underway with more of the same and fresh bodies started to be injected slowly into the Amazon cause without missing a beat. Notable second half features: The entrance of Dirty D at flanker.  Within 30 seconds of her debut Nic Richards got the ball on a kick off and so began another fabulous dirty display of skills. Chris Trucano left a trail of casualties that cumulated with a stellar stiff-arm, her weapon of choice, just prior to being laid to rest out of bounds 40 meters from the first Madison victim. Nic Borgen had an offensive break through the line which sparked Petroff into high gear, jetting across the field for an amazing support run effort with perfect timing. Miss Mulf showed no signs of car-butt, from her drive as she was able to turn the corner on two big runs on the backpedalling Wisconsin defense.

B-side –

The Zons came out with mostly fresh legs against the same Madison side—with the addition of Sandy ‘Super-Fly’ Meredith wearing a red jersey.  The 3rd half started out a little slow but once the butterflies shook out—the Amazons showed much of the same style as the first game.  Powerful hits, good lineouts and dominating scrums.  Carrie Bauer put on her usual defensive tackling show—leading with the John Reed favorite low shoulder—she put the pop on a Madison wing that sent a stinger through the sideline crowd.  Newbie Terese became the apple of Roger’s eye by drawing in two defensive backs and offloading in contact to set up a textbook shoot-the-gap score by Bauer.  All in all a solid Amazon team display.  Score: a lot to none.

Biggest Hit winner—Janet for her foot to the ball on her Magic Foot featured

Hulk-A-Zon Winner—again Janet for her cursing Roger for the evil jinx

SuperZon-Chris Trucano—for the run of all runs (see above).

Now for the double feature….the Sand Bar.  Well we found the new location.  And as Dirty said…”it’s just not as intimate.” Reebok and Mamma (now dubbed Bert and Ernie for their delightful headgear and happy-jolly nature) got a full tour of the new establishment by bartender Mike.  He took them to the basement in search of the trophies and gear—although the task seemed too daunting as the wall of boxes was intimidating and would be a waste of a good buzz to try and find the treasure chest of Zon stuff.  So instead we taught the locals (mostly Cougars) how to play the beloved flip cup.  Needless to say Amazons conquered all who challenged and left as victors and champions of the reindeer games yet again.  Many will be proud to know that yes several Zons represented well and “tossed the tops” at 1am in lue of “pants off at 11”.  Good times….
